If it does work, then that means the HW is not faulty, and the fault lies with the Ubuntu distribution, not the Pi itself. As simple and as obvious as that.
There is a secondary point, if it only goes wrong in Ubuntu, then we (RPF) no longer need to investigate the issue. We generally only investigate issues that occur in Raspbian, since that is our OS.
