Pi 3 + RASPBIAN STRETCH WITH DESKTOP No Mouse Cursor 1st boot setup

Fri Jul 06, 2018 2:15 am

I got past 1 screen not being able to see the mouse cursor but I admittedly couldn't get any further.

I tried for awhile it was kind of fun for a few minutes 'til I wanted to smash everything.

No mouse cursor.. who would ever think that was a good idea ?

I tried 2 different mice even though I wouldn't think that should matter.

Do I need to use Lite or something is the full Stretch Desktop no cursor because it's for touchscreens ?

I can't do initial setup if I can't see the mouse cursor & tab on the keyboard doesn't work to go to the next option.

Open a terminal, using either keyboard shortcuts on GUI, or switch to one tty with ctrl+alt+Fkeys.

run command lsusb before connecting your mouse.
Plug it in
And rerun the command, to see if the mouse is seen by the OS.

To begin =)
RPI2B 7/24 - web, NAS/media, Owncloud and more
RPI0 7/24 - VPN, DHCP, DNS (including filtering), wakeonlan proxy
RPI0W - VPN gateway providing secure WIFI AP and network router, some kind of internet BOX when on the move ;)

I have a mouse cursor on my Stretch install, and I have not had any trouble with various brands of USB mice with my Pi computers. I suspect you have a bad install of Raspbian Stretch. Verify the SHA-256 hash sum of your download against the one on the download page, and try writing the card again with Etcher (https://etcher.io/).
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

The screen size was only opening in about a deck of cards size window :-/

Tried to get a terminal but wasn't seeing it.

The only way I knew the mouse was there was if I moved it around enough I could see it hover over things.

I'll try thanks :-)

I did get the image from there.. used the torrent for a full reliable download..

But I did write using Win32DiskImager.

I'll try Etch :-)

This totally worked thanks a lot..

Is Win32DiskImager too out of date ? :-(

Win32DiskImager has always been hit and miss. It worked great for some people, while others had nothing but trouble with it, and since it doesn't verify the write, you never know if it was done correctly (until you run into trouble later).

Etcher is a much more polished and reliable image writer.
