Help on mounting ext4 usb drive

Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:01 pm

Hi,

I am trying to mount a usb drive but it is mounted as read-only.

With blkid i have:

Code: Select all

/dev/mmcblk0p1: SEC_TYPE="msdos" UUID="9DCF-4197" TYPE="vfat"
/dev/mmcblk0p2: UUID="f10ba0bd-17e0-4800-b0af-19bb2ed45acd" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda1: LABEL="32GB" UUID="EC22C5F222C5C236" TYPE="ntfs"
/dev/sdb1: LABEL="1.41.12-2647" UUID="cd2b07f2-2e61-4f07-b755-9bb754c1d976" TYPE="ext4"
I mounted it in /etc/fstab

Code: Select all

proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/mmcblk0p1 /boot vfat defaults 0 2
/dev/mmcblk0p2 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
/dev/sda1 /mnt/downloads ntfs-3g defaults 0 0
#UUID=cd2b07f2-2e61-4f07-b755-9bb754c1d976 /mnt/usb2 ext4 defaults 0 0
Everything its ok with my other usb drive (ntfs-3g) but the ext4 formatted drive is mounted as read-only.

I ran fsck.ext4 /dev/sdb1

Code: Select all

e2fsck 1.42.5 (29-Jul-2012)
1.41.12-2647: recovering journal
fsck.ext4: No such device or address while trying to re-open 1.41.12-2647
Signal (11) SIGSEGV si_code=SEGV_MAPERR fault addr=0x1
Any suggestions? Is my usb faulty? I was using it without any problems in windows before.

Thanks

/dev/sda1 /mnt/downloads ext4 auto,user,rw,exec 0 0

try that

also you might want to change ntfs-3g to ext4 :)

I think it worked! Right now i am copying a big file to from usb to usb for testing.
The sda1 is my NTFS usb drive. I want it that way for easy transferring big files to windows.

Thanks!

I seem to be making really hard work of this!

I'm trying to transfer game roms from windows to rpi with a standard USB stick.
I've installed the mount command using apt-get....

Using the blkid command, it shows the dev/sda1 drive as sec-type 'msdos'.....type "vfat"

But when I cd to the media/usb0 drive, there are no files shown - Have I got it completely wrapped round my neck?!!!
I assumed that it would be a format issue - EXT4 vs. FAT32

Please help!

Thanks Richard

Sorry, scrap that call for help - seems to be working now!
Maybe it just needed a reboot?!

I only noticed 'cos someone else mentioned trying the desktop and hey presto - the flash folder appeared with all my Amiga roms - hopefully Retropie AMiga here we come!
