Do not buy this case, it has broken 2 brand new Pi 3 B+ devices

Sat Jun 23, 2018 5:02 am

Beware this product, it is not compatible with the Pi 3 B+
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B/B+/Pi 2 Metal Case Enclosure Box Aluminum (BIQU Grey)

I purchased a brand new Pi 3 B+ for this case. When i received it I put it right into the case and fired it up... nothing, it's totally dead. I just get a red light... I've tried everything. My first thought was that the pi was defective, so I ordered another one. This time, I turned it on before putting it in the case, worked great. Then I turned it off, put it in the case, turned it on, and now it's dead like the first one. So incredibly frustrating. Do not buy this case!

Sounds like it is putting pressure on the top of the SoC, probably breaking the PCB underneath. Did it come with various thicknesses of thermal pad for that are of the case? SImilar designs use different depths of pads to compensate.

Title looks a bit ambiguous (as do many ebay listings). Reading through the listing, it does not list the 3B+ as a compatible device (nor incompatible though).

Another metal case had to use a thinner heat transfer rubber between the metal and case.
Suitable for B +, PI2, PI3 motherboard installation,
Got to read the small print, no 3B+.
Probably need a 1mm or more taken off.

Closing the lid bent the PCB, popping some BGA balls and tracks off?

The title clearly says it supports the 3 B+

It does say that in the title but the seller shows compatible models in 2 other places in the listing where the 3B+ is not listed.
Note B+ and 3B+ are not the same thing.
Makes me think the seller blindly updated the title without actually trying it.
You need to contact the seller and ebay about the issue. You might get your money back for the case?

Contact the seller and tell him of your issues.

Any case that has any projections from the top down will not match the Pi 3B+ component layout. The circuit board has the same footprint as the Pi 3B but the components have been moved and the WiFi and SOC are now both metal clad, so their height is greater than that on the Pi 3B. You might be able to grind the projections down or off. For the Pi 3B+ they server no purpose.
