sudo reboot

Hi!

I have a few raspberrie pi at home. One in particular, a raspi 3b+, updated/upgraded, on latest raspbian strech, running solely on a mSata (no sd card) through an x805 mSata hat is causing me problems.

Before I had the mSATA, I could "sudo reboot" normally. It would.... reboot....

Since I installed the mSATA (fresh, flashed it, reinstalled everything), whenever I do a "sudo reboot" it turns off... No more leds, no activity led, no network leds, ssh goes down, everything stops. But it stays dead, until I unplug it and replug it.... Any advices where to search for an answer?

Try sudo rpi-update to get a 4.14.48 kernel and bootcode that fixes the "won't reboot" bug. It's slightly experimental but the latest build is now four days old.

Thanks for the answer!

Is it based on a changelog that you say it's gonna fix it? I'm just asking, because rpi-update is not just rpi-update, it breaks the respeaker support and other things that take time to fix then...

It's based on the commits at https://github.com/hexxeh/rpi-firmware.

If rpi-update causes a problem you may be able to copy just bootcode.bin, start_cd.elf, start_db.elf, start.elf, start_x.elf, fixup_cd.dat, fixup.dat, fixup_db.dat & fixup_x.dat and leave your special kernel & /lib/modules in place.

Ok, not only it did not correct the reboot problem, but I can't reinstall my respeaker now :)

The actual kernel, after update is 4.14.48-v7+

It will happen sometime in the future when the RPF/RP(T)Ltd. folks decide the time is right for the next version of NOOBS and plain Raspbian.

running kernel 4.14.48 for a while.
but a reboot will not work.
always have to pull the power-supply, after 5 mins. waiting.

I had the same issue using the Raspbian Stretch Lite downloaded from https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_lite_latest on my RPI 3B+ and a usb memory stick of 16GB.

Without installing other packages, the first command I gave after login was "sudo reboot" command but the RPI 3B+ won't reboot.
The only way to restart the raspberry was to turn off and on the power supply.

I solved the problem only after this command sequence:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

The kernel has been updated to the version 4.14.52-v7+ #1123

With this Kernel version I no longer noticed problems with the sudo reboot command

I did get kernel version 4.14.52-v7+ #1123 a few days ago and in order to get that kernel active, I tried to reboot, which did not go.
had to take the power off and on - not just once, but 3 times.
did not reboot again, as I was happy that it came back up and running.
so, now I did a reboot and it worked.
don't really understand, why it did not reboot moving to the present kernel.
and now it does.
headless RPi 3B running from usbhdd.
