Adafruit PiTFT 2.2" Display Not Working

I just picked up an Adafruit PiTFT 2.2" No-Touch Display, and it's already off to a bad start. I know it's getting power, because when I turn on the Pi, the screen turns white. When the HDMI display boots into the PIXEL interface, the overscan is configured correctly, and there are no problems with the Pi, bootup, or OS, but the screen is just a dark grey. Not black, and the backlight is lit.

Any help?

check the spec for any resistors or pots pulling backlight to +v or gnd and ensure they are installed.

What do you mean? I am not very techy with hardware.

Those small screens are not plug-n-play. They need special firmware overlays or a custom kernel to work. Adafruit has the documentation you need to get your screen working on their site. Go to the product page you linked, and click on Learn.

Did you check the Help/FAQ page for the product?

My PiTFT works for a bit and then I get a black screen with a short line of white pixels in one corner

It might not be the exact symptoms, but it is a starting point. Also you might want to email them, but do not expect a response before Monday.

You might also want to check the connecting ribbons to see if any contact points have lifted from the backing. This has happened to me with their 7" display.

I tried the troubleshooting, and it didn't work. Now things are worse. Randomly, the screen showed a bunch of pink, white, blue, and red pixels. The next time I booted up, the pixels were gone, and the screen was white. The Pi scrolls through the boot text, but then hangs on a grey screen and does nothing, but there is still signal from the PI. There is no activity on the Pi, as far as the status light.

I tried it a second time, and it froze on the:

Code: Select all

Debian GNU/Linux comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
(It was set to GUI)

Edit: I disconnected the screen, and it still hung there. So obviously the current problem is SOFTWARE.

(I had that suspicion from the start.)
