Volume adjustment not working anymore

Sun Mar 18, 2018 8:15 pm

Hi,

I'm using Raspbian Stretch on Rpi3 with the Google Voice HAT. Everything worked fine until a few days ago: suddenly the volumeslider in the taksbar doesn't affect the volume anymore.
Also the volume on Audacious doesn't work anymore, it only can mute the sound if turned down completely.
Using alsamixer in the terminal also cannot influence the volume.

I do a lot of apt-get update and upgrade, I also install and remove software constantly. I didn't install anything to do with the sound (only mail-clients, browsers, text-editors, ...), but it is hard to know if or what could have influenced this behaviour.

The settings in /home/pi/.asoundrc are correct and worked until now. I have the same settings in /etc/asound.conf

That is:

Code: Select all

options snd_rpi_googlevoicehat_soundcard index=0

pcm.softvol {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm dmix
    control {
        name Master
        card 0
    }
}

pcm.micboost {
    type route
    slave.pcm dsnoop
    ttable {
        0.0 30.0
        1.1 30.0
    }
}

pcm.!default {
    type asym
    playback.pcm "plug:softvol"
    capture.pcm "plug:micboost"
}

ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
}
aplay -l:

Code: Select all

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpigooglevoi [snd_rpi_googlevoicehat_soundcar], device 0: Google voiceHAT SoundCard HiFi voicehat-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

amixer:

Code: Select all

Simple mixer control 'Master',0
  Capabilities: volume
  Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: 0 - 255
  Front Left: 69 [27%]
  Front Right: 69 [27%]
cat /proc/asound/cards:

Code: Select all

 0 [sndrpigooglevoi]: snd_rpi_googlev - snd_rpi_googlevoicehat_soundcar
                      snd_rpi_googlevoicehat_soundcard
What can I try next?

For future reference: deleting the .asoundsc file did the trick.

After deleting that file, it was remade with this setting:

Code: Select all

pcm.!default {
	type hw
	card 0
}

ctl.!default {
	type hw
	card 0
}
Which DIDN'T work anymore after a few updates, I had to copy-paste the above code in the .asoundrc file to get it working again. Sometimes things change :-)
