Re: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ - Freeze during installation?

Noobs probably needs to catch up (Jeez I hate that system), where and when did you get your Raspian image from?

Ignore, I viewed page 2 before I saw page 1, my bad :oops:

Edit 2: Actually someone tacked on a similar problem to this thread (start your own and save us all some grief).

If you are having reliability problems can you try editing config.txt

Code: Select all

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
and add to end of file:

Code: Select all

arm_freq=1000
and reboot. Does that avoid the issue?
If it does can you try removing that and adding:

Code: Select all

over_voltage=1
if that doesn't help then you can increase to 2. Let us know if any of these affect the issue.

Many thanks for the suggestion.

In my case (Sandisk Ultra Class 16Gb + Official 5.1V 2.5A PSU logging 5.08V min 1ms drop across GPIO) when running this, unloaded-

Code: Select all

sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4M status=progress >/dev/null
dmesg
I still get the mmc_rescan errors at 1000MHz. :(

EDIT:

Booting the same card via a fast USB card reader works fine, as does doing a bulk read of it via the USB card reader. Booting via USB and arm_freq=1000 and attempting to read another known good card via the Pi's builtin card reader STILL results in the same timeout mmc_rescan errors though. :(

EDIT 2:

And now getting temperature icon, in currently freezing England in a cold room, when loading it through-

Code: Select all

for ((i=0; i<$(nproc --all); i++)); do nice yes >/dev/null & done
Hope that doesn't mean problems?

I exchanged my B+ board today and got a new one. Now everything seems to work. I have compiled my game twice without the B+ freezing and on my previous B+ board it always freeze.

I will run some more tests and see what happens but so far it looks very promising.

Cool, sounds like a test escape. All Pi's get tested at end of production but if the failure is only intermittent it may be missed.
Glad the new one is behaving better.

Sorry for posting in this thread, just thought it might be a similar issue. I assumed that there may be a larger error with one of the first batches?

I will send my one back, stop bothering this thread and wait for the replacement. If that still doesn't work I will switch to another platform. Experimenting with reliability is not my type of business.

I believe you do that on a daily basis, just as your kettle is fairly reliable (but not certain) to boil water, your Pi/Apple/x86/android/linux systems all come with excellent reliability but no one can guarantee %100 particularly when user error does amount to high percentage of those (low numbers of) failures.

I am deeply impressed of the work you all done with the Raspberry and for a noble cause as well. The little amount of work I had to put in was nothing compared to the joy I got of using it. Best Linux platform ever compared to price!

Patrik

+1

Good, humbling, point, Patrik. Through all the moaning it's really important to remember to give credit where it's due for all the hard work.

The Pi got me back into hacking (original meaning) computers and then electronics again.

I suspect the Pi has been a big root cause of the growth of maker culture too.

Excellent work and, looking at the rise of code clubs, aim achieved and surpassed.

THANK YOU DOM & THE RPI TEAM. 😁
