RPi doesn't boot after editing /boot/cmdline.txt

Sat Dec 16, 2017 8:22 pm

Hi,

I tried to disable screen blanking by adding
consoleblank=0
to the end of the line in
/boot/cmdline.txt.
Since then the Raspberry doesn't seem to boot completely. I can see in the screen that the boot process is starting but then the screen turns off and nothing else happens.

Now I don't even now how to undo my changes as I cannot get access to the raspberry.

Any help is highly appreciated. I'm a beginner and I am using the raspberry in a christmas present, I am feeling quite helpless right now... :(

Thank you,
Lukas

I assume you still have physical access to the pi?
If so, the take out the card and put it in any computer. You should see the file cmdline.txt
Use a text editor to undo your changes.
NB: make sure that everything in this file is on a single line

Thanks, that worked! But I still don't know why this was wrong. In several tutorials it is written that you can add consoleblank=0 to that line (yes, it was one single line) to disable screensaver. Does it have to be in a specfic position?

Anyway, thanky for your help. At least everything is running again.

You will need to post your exact cmdline.txt file here (after you made your change) in order for us to ascertain what you did wrong...

My guess is a missing space or something like that.

Here is the complete line:

Code: Select all

dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=serial0,115200 console=tty1 root=PARTUUID=51df20e4-02 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes rootwait quiet splash plymouth.ignore-serial-consoles consoleblank=0

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... ensaver.md

That's the way to do it.

Check you never pressed return at the end for a new line?
