Raspberry Pi Headless - Wireless

Fri Dec 15, 2017 5:03 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my rpi zero v1.2 installed with a headless install, then automatically connecting to the wifi. I've got rpi's up and running easily before however my pi just won't connect to the wifi?

I've followed tutorials on how to set up this up including:
- Creating a the bootable usb - (Raspbian Stretch Lite - Nov release)
- Creating a blank ssh file into the boot root
- Create a wpa_supplicant.conf file in the root. Using this config. My wireless is a WPA2-PSK. In the UK.

Code: Select all

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=GB

network={
	ssid="BTHub*****"
	psk="**********"
	key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}
Is there something I'm missing? Any pointers would really appreciated, been trying for many hours!

Thanks

Are you trying to boot from a USB flash drive without an SD card? If so, you first have to boot with an SD card with a special entry in config.txt to enable USB boot. https://github.com/raspberrypi/document ... des/msd.md
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

It's a Pi Zero -- it doesn't do USB only boot. The problem seems to be the WiFi only, not the boot. What is in the file /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf? For Stretch, it should be:

Code: Select all

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=GB
network={
    ssid="testing"
    psk="testingPassword"
}
but with your own country code, ssid and password.
