Not booting after cloning SD card

Fri Oct 27, 2017 12:14 pm

I've made a backup of my SD card and restored it to another one (using `sudo cp -a ...` command in Ubuntu). On first sight, the cloned card seems ok, all the bin, etc, tmp, var, ... dirs are there. But it doesn't boot. It's stuck on some smsc95xx register usb line. It still boots fine from original card.

I've forgot to mention, the new SD card previously also had raspbian on itselfs, so it's properly partitioned and formatted.

I just wanted to copy my pimped, tweaked and configured Raspbian Stretch Lite to another Raspberry Pi.

Solution for next generations:

Get PARTUUID with `sudo blkid /dev/sdb2` and fix it in /boot/cmdline.txt and /etc/fstab.

You are a lifesaver - I was losing my mind trying to figure out why this thing wasn't working after I added the free space to the partition but was when I hadn't yet. thank you!!
