issue mounting usb drive

Tue Oct 03, 2017 12:28 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm running into an issue which it rattling my brain.

I have one of my Pi ZeroW running the 08-16-17 raspbian stretch image.

my

Code: Select all

/etc/fstab
looks like

Code: Select all

proc            /proc           proc    defaults          0       0
PARTUUID=4a6c32b1-01  /boot           vfat    defaults          0       2
PARTUUID=4a6c32b1-02  /               ext4    defaults,noatime  0       1
UUID=ECAADEE5AADEAAFA /home/pi/media/usb ntfs auto,nofail,noatime,users,rw,uid=pi,gid=pi 0 0            #Red Scandisk 64Gb
# a swapfile is not a swap partition, no line here
#   use  dphys-swapfile swap[on|off]  for that
I have ntfs-3g installed also.

When I run

Code: Select all

sudo mount -a
and then

Code: Select all

df -h
i get :

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ sudo mount -a
[email protected]:~ $ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/root        30G  4.9G   24G  18% /

tmpfs            44M     0   44M   0% /run/user/1000
[email protected]:~ $
My usb drive doesn't mount, however if i run

Code: Select all

sudo mount -a; df -h /code] I get

 [code][email protected]:~ $ sudo mount -a; df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/root        30G  4.9G   24G  18% /

/dev/sda1        59G   28G   32G  47% /home/pi/media/usb
[email protected]:~ $
Looks good! However it seems like it unmounts right away?? because if I then check again with

Code: Select all

df -h
I get

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/root        30G  4.9G   24G  18% /
devtmpfs        213M     0  213M   0% /dev
tmpfs           218M     0  218M   0% /dev/shm
tmpfs           218M  6.2M  211M   3% /run
tmpfs           5.0M  4.0K  5.0M   1% /run/lock
tmpfs           218M     0  218M   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/mmcblk0p1   42M   21M   21M  51% /boot
tmpfs            44M     0   44M   0% /run/user/1000
[email protected]:~ $
I'm stumped! I've had no issue with this in the past but for some reason it now doesn't work.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

After some reading I've added

Code: Select all

max_usb_current=1
in

Code: Select all

/boot/config.txt
and it seemed to do the trick when I reboot the Pi.

However, If i then unmount it and try to mount it again i run into the same issues. :?:

Have you checked the log with 'dmesg'?
What type of drive is it (3.5" / 2.5" HDD, memory stick, ...)?
Is it powered by the Pi?
