Cant connect to my Raspberry Pi 3 VPN server

Thu Sep 07, 2017 1:10 am

Hi everyone
I installed my Raspberry Pi 3 VPN server and I connected my laptop to the server with my OpenVpn GUI on Windows 10, but I got a problem after I disconnected from the server its not possible to connect anymore and it tells me that (UDP link local (not bound) ) and (TLS handshake failed).

However it possible to connect to the VPN server without any error issues when I connect my laptop to my mobile data with the personal hotspot option!!!
I already forwarded the port of the Raspberry Pis local IP address.

Any idea how to resolve the problem?

You will need to open "port 1146 tcp" on your router so your VPN is visible to the public internet.

But I already used port 1194 and UDP protocol, with the installation of PiVPN , and I already forwarded port 1194 for my laptop local IP.

That's going the other way with a outbound connection to a remote server. If you run a server you have to have the inbound port open.

OK, then you mean that I should do port forwarding for 1146 TCP and use my laptops local IP address, right?

Where does the server live? Where does the client live? What connects them?

The server is my Raspberry Pi 3, the client is my laptop, what connects them is OpenVPN GUI. I already did a port trigger between
(Trigger Port 1146 TCP) and (Incoming Port 1194 UDP) , Port forwarding for my Raspberry Pis local IP-address with port 1194. Down below are the settings for my router.

Default protocol for OpenVPN is NOT TCP. It uses UDP unless you override that.

Not on your photos of your router's port forwarding you didn't.

Does my port forwarding is wrong?

That's more likely to work. Take your laptop and go and buy a coffee in Starbucks or a burger in McDonalds to test it (I'm assuming they have free WiFi in NZ). You'll need to know your public IP address before doing that.

Thanks mate I really appreciate your help, only one more thing is it important to do the Port Trigger process also along with Port forwarding, if so do you think my router settings for that are correct? down below are the Port Trigger settings.

The screenshots did not load for me - but you do not need triggers for VPN to work.
