vlc playback problem

I've tried the latest 2017 recommendation for VLC :
viewtopic.php?f=66&t=59814

But, after opening a video with VLC, the keys to handle the videos (like play, pause, ...) works real bad.

I can only play/pause with the spacebar, and even this is not working after a while.

I can not even escaped VLC. I have to ssh from other computer and kill the VLC process.

omxplayer works great compared to this.

What am I missing ?

For me all the VLC keyboard commands do work.

But if the VLV window looses focus, they will not work any more. Maximizing the VLC window helps.

Maximising ?

Do you use the version there ? :

When starting a video with this version, you don't have a VLC window with menu, and that's normal.

Of course I'm talking about this version. I wrote the tutorial.

And VLC will run in windowed mode (but not the video if you use HW acceleration), if you start it from the Desktop.
