If you want help, you need to explain what you are doing and what is going wrong.

What do you mean by "it goes through the code"?

Has it ever worked or has it always failed?

Which username did you use to login?

Do you see any error messages?

Do you know which distribution you have downloaded?

Did you expand the size of your SD card?

Have you changed the memory split?

Please explain your problem calmly, using punctuation and paragraphs.

It sound like startx is failing for some reason. I predict that you are out of storage space. If you have a card bigger than 2GB, make sure the linux partition has been expanded in raspi-config.

If sudo startx works but not startx, then that means that some files associated with the process of starting X are for whatever reason owned by root instead of pi. (the users, I mean)

No, it could just mean that the disk is full to non-superusers, as you originally suggested.

Edited subject line to something more sensible.

Check how full the SD card is by using the command
df /

The percentage is shown on the right-hand side, anything above 95% means your disk is very full.

I have had this problem too!

I'm going to reset the Sd card and carry on from there.

But I wonder why it happened I have never done anything (in the sense of having many huge files) and it was working yesterday now I turned it on today and bang this happens …
