apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
rpi-update
formatting and reinstalling noobs numerous times
different pi units
differents sd cards (new and used)

What does 'dmesg' have to say about it? Are you installing Raspbian light or the full version?

The problem is the wifi is not working
What does that mean, precisely?

Do you see the network configuration icon at the top right of the GUI Desktop? (Usually two opposing up/down arrows) Does that give you the option of entering your WiFi credentials?

Do your credentials fail? Is there anything about the WiFi network that could explain this? (Have you asked the Network Administrator?)

rpi-update is probably not going to be part of the solution, and for consistency it would be better if your fault-finding was done on a standard current release of Raspbian, as installed by the current version of the NOOBS Installer.

The official Raspberry Pi Foundation documentation is here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... /README.md
