MicroSD is burning

I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 and followed instructions to install an OS. When I inserted the SD card and powered the Raspberry the SD card slot started heating and burning. My SD card now does not work and I don't know if the Raspberry is damaged.
Any of you know why could this have happened?

The microSD was very hot and there was smoke without flames.

Yeah :/ but It seemed to work correctly on my computer before I tried it in the Raspberry. Do you think the Raspberry damaged the microSD?

I bought a new MicroSD and installed Ubuntu MATE. Everything is working fine now.
