My pi won't boot.

Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:09 pm

I got my raspberry pi couple of months ago. And after playing around with it a bit, I put away for a few months. Today I pulled it out again, and put Raspbian on my SD card. However, when I plugged the power cord in only the red power light came on. I looked up troubleshooting online, and tested several power supplies, and retried uploading onto my sd card. I tried an SD with RasBMC that I knew work for about a month earlier. This didn't work either. I tried cleaning out under the SD card pins. This had, at least some affect as now the green light flashes several times before it stops and only the red power light remains. The flash is not slow and steady, so I don't believe it to be an error signal. Any help would be much appreciated.
Using apple iphone wall adapter with micro USB cord from HTC.
I have attached a link to a video, sorry, but It was taken with my 3GS the red light overshadows the green, but you can still see the green flash

I have tried unplugging everything except the SD and the power. Should I still try the HDMI config change?

how do you change the setting if you can't get it to boot?

I would try another SD Card also try pinging it if you can get it networked.

If you can login to your modem or router see if it has a list of dhcp clients if you see the pi then it is definitely connecting and is a video issue try another hdmi cable or the setting by ssh into it.

You still haven't told to what screen it is connected.
I noticed your network led's aren't on. Do you have a router you can connect the Pi 2? If your Pi get's a dhcp from the router or if it's pingable, it might prove that you just aren't having a display.

I'll try those things, but I want to be clear that the green "OK" light comes on for a few seconds, flashes than turns off

OK, I got it networked to my macbook pro, but whatever I try, I can't seem to ssh into it, (also, ok light still not on), rasbpian defaults

The Raspberry Pi has issues with some SD cards - class 10 or more - and will give the pinprick or the flash issue. Try updating the firmware on the card to the newest possible version as this can solve some, if not most, SD card issues. Try Berry Boot too, because this will grab the files off the Internet for you, and will set it up for you as well. Just out of question, Is there any pattern in the flashing of any lights? What is the rating of the power adaptor? You will experience weird goings on with the minimum amperage. I use a USB battery rated as 1 AMP to work my Pi, and it works a treat! ;)
