Ethernet Connection Not Stable

hey,

I have got a home ethernet cable plugged into my Raspi3, and the eth0 port icon on the desktop keeps flashing ,and when I hover over it, it keeps switching between 'eth0L Link is up, Configuring', and then reverts to 'eth0: Link is down'. It swaps about every 2 seconds between the two.

This is only happened now I have formatted my SD card and installed a fresh copy of Raspbian Jesse.

Anyone know why this is happening? Wifi works fine, but I am hoping to use ethernet for my project.

Sorry I should have said I tested another Pi on that cable and network port and it works fine

it seems when I tested my wall socket I *thought* i also swapped cat5 cables, it seems I took the cable with the pi, so I actually tested another Pi AND the cat5, and that was the issue, the damn cable!
