Pixel Menu Bar disappearing after today's apt-get upgrade

Wed Mar 01, 2017 4:59 pm

Pi Zero 1.3, CSR4.0 BT dongle, external BT speaker. Old habit, did an upgrade instead of the recommended dist-upgrade to my Raspbian-Pixel installation.

Now, I'm at: Linux pixelzero 4.4.48+ #964 Mon Feb 13 16:50:25 GMT 2017 armv6l GNU/Linux
After several connects/disconnects to the speaker, the menu bar disappears. I'm assuming it's down to the upgrade, and not something else I've fubar'd.

Here's the end of the LXDE log showing the behaviour:

Anyone else with a similar setup seeing the same after updating today?

Did an update last night (do this every few weeks) - and I get the same problem. The launching panel is gone, after a few flickers within a few minutes.
(login/logout or reboot restores of course)
Same errors.

Just installed Raspbian/Pixel on my new Zero W and its doing the same thing on here.
If you disconnect from Bluetooth it comes back.
Strangely my Pi 3 has the same setup and doesnt lose the taskbar?

Updated again. lxpanel was in the list. Looking good! No crashing, the pixel menu bar is still there after 10 minutes, no similar errors showing up in /home/pi/.cache/lxsession/LXDE-pi/run.log
Fantastic stuff! Thanks spl23!

FYI, the fix is in lxpanel; specifically in the Bluetooth plugin. I'd recently added some code to force lxkeymap to reload when a Bluetooth keyboard reconnects, and while it worked perfectly in that instance, it caused a segfault due to a compare on a null string when an audio device reconnects...

Good morning everybody, on a Pi2 with latest NOOBS (I downloaded it few days ago) I have the same problem: taskbar is blank / empty / missing just after startup. If I re-install the operating system the taskbar appears, but after some reboots (I don't know if one or more) the taskbar is blank and a window on the screen says 'Plumouth has been updated...' (but I didn't issue any sudo apt-get update command)

Hi everybody, I think I found a workaround to the problem of taskbar empty / blank / missing. I read in this thread about the bluetooth plugin, so I removed it. The problem didn't appeared again, till now. I know this is not the solution to the problem (I don't use bluetooth, but others maybe need it) but it can be usefull to temporary solve the issue. This is the package I removed:

pi-bluetooth - Raspberry Pi 3 bluetooth

Good evening everybody, I'm sorry but my workaround doesn't fix the problem. The taskbar became empty this afternoon once again, and I just reinstalled the operating system.
So I wait for a better idea to solve the problem.
Cheerio.
