Try formatting the card in a digital camera.

Run gparted to remove everything from the card and start with a single FAT32 partition.

When that's done you should be able to run the dd from the beginning.

thank you it worked. i just had to remove the existing partition and create a new fat32 partition on the unassigned part and it worked again.
