Possible to mount SMB shares from raspbian on Mac?

Sat Jan 07, 2017 4:08 pm

Hi all,

I have a file server I setup to stream content on my network. I can mount the folders on other RPi's running raspbian or arch, I can mount it on Windows and Android. I just cannot get the same folders to mount on a Mac. I have tried it by hostname and ip and the result is still the same. The top level folders show up for a split second but when clicked it says the resource can't be found. I have the same issue on El Capitan and Sierra. SSH works great, VNC works great. Its just mounting files that is borked at the moment.

WARNING: Useless "it works for me" post coming up.

I know this probably doesn't help you much, but this command pair works just fine on my Mac (I have this in one of my startup files so it runs on boot):

Code: Select all

$ mkdir /Volumes/data
$ mount -v -t smbfs //[email protected]/data /Volumes/data

Can you post a screen shot or at least give an explicit description of what you do and where the error message is coming from?

Also, key question: Can you mount other shares (i.e., from hosts other than an Rpi) on your Mac? 'Cause it sounds like a Mac problem, not an Rpi problem.

I am going to add 2 screenshots. One is of the command line. One is if I try to mount the share from finder. I can load other SMB shares from other devices. Its just the raspbian smb server that I can't mount.

Thanks for posting the screenshots. I must admit that I am at a loss. It looks like you're doing everything right.

Assuming all your information is correct - that you can mount other SMB shares from the Mac and that you can mount this SMB share (i.e., the one on the Pi) from other machines - then there doesn't seem to be anything else to say that's obvious. It looks like it should work...
