Lost SPI and i2C

I'm very new to all this and I've been following a guide which has been problematic for me. As part of my playing I went into raspi-config and chose advanced options then updates, owing to SPI and i2C issues (I'll raise them separately so as not to confuse matters. Anyway, I chose update and it updated but I then lost a few options off the advanced menu, including the SPI and i2C ones. Can anyone suggest how to reverse what I've done please? I really have no idea.
