HDMI video output on PI3 goes on and off...

Wed Oct 26, 2016 1:57 pm

I've got a PI3 and it has Rasbian (Latest version) on it and also OSMC with noobs.
The screen flashes on and off on both OS'es.
It does this with both the direct HDMI connection to my Samsung TV and also a connection via a VGA->HDMI (pihut) adapter.
I've tried re-installing a few times and it always seems to do it.
Also tried under-clocking to 700Mhz but it still does it.
Anyone any ideas?
Maybe I just need to buy another one.
The same SD card work without an issue in my PI1 and PI2.

Thanks, Richard.

I'm not sure how you have done this on a single sd card...I was unaware that you could do multiple OS boots from one card. Try it with a fresh install of Raspbian alone on the sd card. See if that doesn't fix your HDMI issues.

If you need to run osmc, run it on its own sd card. Noobs should just go away when you use it to install an OS. If you do use Noobs for the installation, do not forget to click on the language selection in the panel at the bottom of the page.

That's one of the things NOOBS does.

What does "vcgencmd get_throttled" report (after the display has glitched).

Try adding (or uncommenting) the line:

Code: Select all

config_hdmi_boost=4
in config.txt
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Pi2/Pi3 actually default to 5, so 4 won't help. Try setting it to 7 (although it can go up to 11).

Thanks for the replies, I will try and set that option on the config_hdmi_boost and see what happens.
the get_throttled just says 0

Thanks, Richard.

That's good - suggests power supply is okay.
