WLAN0 does not show up in ifconfig

Fri Oct 21, 2016 7:07 am

I have two Raspberry Pi 3 Model B - Fresh install of OS

- Pi1 - Raspbian
Bluetooth, ETH - working
WLAN0 - is not working
* ifconfig only shows ETH0 & L0

- Pi2 - Kali (installed Asus USB-BT400)
*USB dongle was installed since I could not get the RPI3 bluetooth working with Kali
Bluetooth, ETH, WLAN0 - working

On both units I have already performed
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Installed bluetooth drivers and bluetooth manager (and updated)

I spent all of yesterday, and half of today trying to get WLAN0 working on Pi1. In the end, I swapped SD cards and found that the WLAN issue stayed with one unit Pi1.

I thought maybe bad WLAN adapter. But this is all built into the chip along with BT.
Is it possible that the WLAN adapter somehow got disabled?

Start with viewtopic.php?f=28&t=44044. Toward the bottom of the rather long first post you may find some helpful information. Go to later posts if that doesn't get you working. Much of that was written prior to the Pi3. Fresh installs of Raspbian should find the wlan0...unsure why yours does not. Try a fresh download/installation of Raspbian.
