no internet in x-windows

hello. i have a raspberry pie (one with network interface) 5 volt 1 amp supply, powered usb hub, mouse and keyboard. the raspberry pi is successfully running as a test server and when i am in bash the internet responds ok updates, pings and the like but when i startx and go into x windows, none of the browsers work. there error is unresolved hostname dns error. when i bring up the console and try to ping google, same error but when i drop out of x all is fine again.

i forgot to mention i have my ip address set to a static one

This is a fault caused by the USB drivers for your mouse. The network connection is killed when certain types of mice are activated by the windowing system.

It has been fixed in the latest firmware update, see for example

Or you could try using a different mouse.
