bad SD card socket - pins not springy enough

Sat Aug 25, 2012 7:56 am

Just got my 2nd Pi, this one from MCM Electronics in Ohio. Was happy to see it was in stock, just a week for ground shipping cross-country. Not so happy to see that booting was intermittent- it worked only once in many startup attempts on each of two SD cards, one of them known-good from use with another R-Pi. The symptom was solid red (power) light, and a few bright blinks of the green light, and then nothing. Voltage level was checked & confirmed OK. It finally did boot after I carefully prodded the pins on the SD card socket with a tweezer, as described on the elinux troubleshooting wiki; two of the pins were sitting rather low.
