SSH password problem

Hi
I have a model B set up as a NAS drive for music etc. Up to now I have been accessing it via SSH from my MacBook Pro (Terminal) and from a Windows 10 PC (Putty) without any problems.
Something on the Mac has changed (I presume it is something I have done) which is preventing me accessing the Pi while I can still access from the Windows PC.
When I connect to the Pi and enter the password I get the error "Permission denied, please try again."
At the third failure I get the error "Permission denied (publickey, password)."
The only thing that I have noticed which is different is that the password prompt seems to be an icon for a key.
Any input or suggestions would be appreciated as I have gone as far as my experience allows.
Thanks
Noel
