Pi zero: slow wifi (pi 2b is ok)

Sun Jun 12, 2016 4:30 pm

Hi,

I recently got a pi zero, and found the wifi bandwith is very slow comparing to the other 2 raspberry I have (version 2b).
I'm using a wifi dongle and a USB OTG cable on the pizero and can barely go up to 60KB/s, while the same wifi dongle on the raspberry 2b runs at 5MB/s.

I tried to put the sd card from the pi 2b into the pi zero, but it's still slow!

I plan to make a CCTV camera with the pizero and camera module and won't be able to stream the recordings with such a bad bandwith.
Is there anything I can do or try to improve wifi bandwith on the pi zero ?

Some specs:
I'm running latest raspian as of today on raspberry website
Power supply is ok (2Amps / 5V)
Tried 2 different sd card
Test transferts with SSH and Samba

Now for the good questions, what kind of dongle do you have? (Preferably, what's the lsusb output, so we can see what the Pi recognizes the dongle as.)

The lsusb result is:
"Bus001 Device002: ID 0bda Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.1n WLAN Adapter"

I would have to check on the pi2b if there's any difference, but I think it happears under the same name

And also if I may add, when running iwlist wlan0 scan, I can see my router showing these values:
Protocol : IEEE 802.11bgn
Channel 1
Bit Rates : 72Mb/s
Quality 98/100 Signal Level 78/100

the usb dongle is this one:
