BBC Radio streaming problem with AC600 dongle on 5GHz wifi

Tue May 24, 2016 11:01 am

I recently used MrEngman's excellent "install-wifi" script to install the necessary driver for an Edimax AC600 wifi dongle.

The dongle seems to work great on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz when surfing the net or playing a Radio Caroline stream with this command:-

Code: Select all

mplayer -cache 64 -playlist
(it is also OK streaming Planet Rock).

But if I use a BBC stream with a command like this:-

Code: Select all

mplayer -cache 64 -playlist
...while it still works fine on 2.4GHz, it will only run for a couple of seconds on 5GHz, then I get messages like:-

Code: Select all

Cache not filling, consider increasing Cache and/or -cache-min!
...after a couple more seconds...

Code: Select all

Exiting... (End of file)
Needless to say, changing cache settings does not improve things.

So the mplayer commands that I have used above work OK on a Pi at 2.4GHz, and on a Ubuntu laptop with internal wifi card at 5GHz.

None of the BBC radio stations work (they have similar structures) on my Pi + AC600 at 5GHz. Other streams seem to work fine.

I know, I don't believe it either.

What am I missing?

uname -a gives:-

Code: Select all

Linux jessiepi 4.1.19-v7+ #858 SMP Tue Mar 15 15:56:00 GMT 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux
lsmod reports that 8812au is loaded.
