Deluge problems

Sun May 08, 2016 12:57 pm

Hello,

after setting up deluge (for torrenting) and samba (NAS) and connecting it to an external usb (which is temporary as im getting an external hard drive. Everything works fine, apart from deluge download speed, I am remotely controlling/adding torrents from windows.

Anyway, the download speed goes up to 2.0 MB/s , then drops, then goes up eventually. This spiking is annoying as the torrents are taking ages to download.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

Make sure it is set for unlimited, other than that two things determine the speed:
edit/preferences/bandwidth/ (upload & download "-1" = unlimited)

1. How many seeders and their broadband upload speeds. If the torrent has only a handful (or none) then it will take forever. Find a torrent with lots of seeders. The files will only go as fast as they can be uploaded by the seeder.

2. Your broadband download speeds, and bandwidth (the more torrents you add to queue, the slower they all get).

on my windows machine, torrents do not do that.

Possibly. I use Deluge on win7 & win10 tablet, and the Pi3, and it functions roughly the same to regards to download speeds and bandwidth. Your system may not be the same as mine though, so I dunno what to tell you. You have to figure that out on your own. If you are running torrents simultaneously on PC and PI...then you may be encountering a bandwidth issue where the PC is using a larger allotment of the bandwidth than the Pi.

What are your resource/thermal meters reporting when deluge runs on Pi?

hmmm... well I am not downloading on anything else other than the Pi.

I am running the pi without a GUI. Deluged is using no more than 30% CPU and about the same memory wise.

Its weird, as the download drops so does the usage of the pi. The temps are 51.5 'C on the Pi.

Then that may indicate a broadband/bandwidth/network issue as the Pi seems to be in normal range (so no throttling I assume, and Arm is operating at 1.2 GHz).

just tested on my windows computer. getting 3-5 MB/s unlike the pi which as i have said it fluctuates a lot.

tried the same torrent on both, pi and windows..

Really, It can be all kinds of things. We are just speculating, and it is all just conjecture. Assuming all is equal, It may just be bandwidth. Shut off all devices that are internet connected (including pc, tv, ip cameras, phones, tablets, xbox, Blu-ray player, printer, etc), then reboot modem, then reboot router.

Then only power up Pi, and see if download speeds are improved or not.

Maybe its deluge? is there another torrent client besides deluge for raspberry pi?
