wifi issue

Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:01 am

I have a Negear WN111v2 wifi dongle which i am managing through the network-manager add on. I can access the add-on and can see the wireless networks and also input the wpa2 passcode however it doesnt seem to actually connect to the network. When i click on the network nothing happens and when i click status it says disconnected. Any ideas?

This normally shows that the device has enough power to receive but not enough to transmit.

Are you using a powered USB hub?

I am not, as whenever I used the powered 7 port hub I have, nothing on it works. The hub is supposedly powered by a 5v 2A supply though :s

"supposedly"may be the key word here, many of these 7-port hubs come with Chinese power supplies of abominable quality, and what it says on their labels is often simply a lie.
The PI should work with a powered hub, not that there are no issues with using it, but for most people it works fine, and yes, without the power from a hub many wifi adapters are unlikely to work.

I had a similar problem with mine when i first started, the solution was to change my router from WPA/WPA2 Personal to Mixed WPA/WPA2 and it finally connected.
