No Red power LED

Fri Apr 29, 2016 9:08 am

Rasberry Pi 3 B board. Only have it 3 weeks. On power up the red LED will give faint flashes then stay off. checked power coming in and it is 5.08 volts. Have tried different micro USB's but same result. Fuse issue ?

Usually when the red LED is blinking/flashing, or otherwise not a constant solid, it indicates a voltage/power supply issue.

What is the wattage (volts x amps)? My suggestion is if you are not running at least 2.4A, that you get an adequate power supply.

5.25V 2.4A or 5.1V 2.5A

Is the Pi still working?
Does the processor get very hot when you power up the Pi?

I'm using a 2A power supply. I thought this should be adequate with nothing else connected ?

what have you plugged into it ?
have you shorted it out somewhere on the board ?

I had a breadboard connected with resistors for GPIO inputs and a relay for switching 1 output.
Currently with nothing connected, the LED stays off and no boot.

Perhaps it is dead considering no red light (power) even though 5v 2A is attached via micro usb, and when it was powered up it got hot very quickly (at idle)?

Did you put any voltage to the GPIO?

my bet is you have stuffed more that 3.3V down a GPIO line and fried the Chip

Were you driving a coil type relay directly from a GPIO? If yes, did you have a diode across the coil to prevent back emf from zapping the GPIO?
