USB hub shows up on Pi Zero but nothing works

Wed Apr 06, 2016 8:43 pm

I have a cheap eBay USB hub, which I eventually want plugged in to be able to use multiple controllers with Retropie on a Pi Zero.

It works fine on my Pi 2, but absolutely nothing happens with my zero at all. When I run lsusb on the Pi Zero I get one entry for 'Genesys logic inc. USB 2.0 Hub / D-Link DUB-H4 USB 2.0 Hub' (which is my hub I'm pretty sure) but none for any of the devices plugged in to it. When I run it on the Pi 2 I get that plus all the entries for the other items (e.g. 'Apple Inc Optical USB Mouse').

All the USB devices work fine independently on the Zero. It's not a power issue either I don't think, because the light in my mouse comes on etc.

Is this something to do with the lack of a USB controller on the Zero? How would I fix it?

Alternatively, could I just splice the two controller wires onto one USB plug?

Thanks
