How to open Epiphany (Web) browser incognito from CLI?

Sun Mar 13, 2016 4:18 pm

I have not figured out how to open a session of epiphany browser from command line in "incognito" mode.

With Chrome for example, I can append "--incognito" to the cli command.

I've tried using "--private-instance", but this is not seem to be the same as opening up an incognito mode from the settings tab.

Epiphany version "Web 3.8.2"

The man page isn't much use is it? I found the answer by opening an incognito window and then using ps -aux in a terminal to see the command used to launch it.

So the answer is... (drum-roll....)

Code: Select all

epiphany-browser --incognito-mode --profile ~/.config/epiphany
Hope that helps! :D

Yes, that is the command to run in Incognito Mode. But what is "Private Instance" mode then? The syntax for that doesnt require a profile so you can just say

Code: Select all

epiphany-browser --private-instance
The documentation for Epiphany is sadly lacking.
