Sat Mar 05, 2016 5:36 am

Wifi is working fine on my pi3 but after a while it turns off

How can I deavtivate the powersaving mode?
Any ideas?

For me, adding the following code to the /etc/network/interfaces file below the wlan0 section solved the problem

Code: Select all

pre-up iw dev wlan0 set power_save off
post-down iw dev wlan0 set power_save on

I followed the older common solution:

modify your /etc/network/interfaces file by adding

Code: Select all

wireless-power off
in the wlan0 section.

Confirmed setting stays through multiple reboots with both

iwconfig

and

iw wlan0 get power_save

I would like to do write in the code, but I have an issue. Maybe somone can help me out with it? :-)

Can't find /network in /etc and therefore "interfaces", too.

Best
Luke

Code: Select all

/network wouldn't be in /etc.

network would be in /etc though.

Putting the "/" in front means "start at the root of the tree" (absolute path). Leaving it out means "start from where you are at the moment" (relative path).

cd /etc <- changes to /etc
cd /etc/network <- changes to /etc/network
cd /network <- tries to change to /network, which doesn't exist.

Thank you very much, but it didn't brought me a step forward to the goal :-(

Code: Select all

OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/ # cd /
OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/ # cd /etc/network
-sh: cd: can't cd to /etc/network
OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/ # cd /etc
OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/etc # cd /network
-sh: cd: can't cd to /network
OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/etc # cd /etc/network
-sh: cd: can't cd to /etc/network
OpenELEC-Schlafzimmer:/etc #

You don't have an /etc/network directory.

Code: Select all

ls -lah /etc/network

Code: Select all

ls -lah /etc
Account Inactive

This is the proper way to shut of Power Management in Linux Distro's based on Debian.

In a Command Window do the following first: sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off
Second do: cd /etc/pm/power.d and press Enter
Third: sudo nano /etc/pm/power.d/wireless
Fourth: #!/bin/sh
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 power off
Fifth: Ctrl X to save it. Press Y, then Enter and then Nano will close.
Sixth: Reboot and Wireless Power Management is permanently shutdown.
Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Ren: Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool! Stimpy: So what'll happen? Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good.
