Used apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade on a wheezy image working on RasPi B/B+/2B. The two files in /lib/firmware/brcm were missing, so I downloaded them.

On boot I still can't see the onboard wlan0...ifconfig lists only eth0 and lo. Now I get these messages in dmesg:

I did, as it is my first RPi anyway. I set up the SD a dozen times. Tried Raspberry, Raspberry lite, OSMC and Ubuntu Mate. The latter wouldn't work at all, I'm gonna try again later. Couldn't try installing Raspbian via Noobs, as my Logitech Keyboard was not recognized and I can't have LAN and Screen at the same time due to the flat I'm living in at the moment... Don't ask... :lol:
Close visual inspection for shorts, solder balls etc. would follow (and possibly carefully / lightly brush the sides of all components with a new, dry brush (e.g. a toothbrush)). But this is grasping...
I'm not sure whether I will try this. I don't like the idea of returning the product as a loyal customer, but I don't see any alternative.
Again, good luck and don't give up easily ;)
At least I will never again have to search on anything related to sudo, nano, apt-get, raspi-config, ifconfig etc. Never ever. I'm not a complete Linux-Noob anymore! ;)

hi can anyone tell me what does it mean the error in the picture below? i cannot connect wifi, even it connects it drops in a while. it is rasberry pi 3 and i m very new to linux. thanks

That stuff just means the device driver is sending messages that you can 100% completely ignore. Mine does the same and it's working perfectly.

You should run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade some time in the near future to make sure you've got the kernel and stuff from 18th March.

No wlan0 or wlan1 showing up on a new pi3. Even when swapping out SD card from another wifi-working pi3.

Tried enabling device tree (if it was ever disabled).

Any ideas. No errors in dmsg.

If the same SDCard works on another RPi3 then you have to assume you've got a hardware failure so should RMA it with the folks you bought it from.

I can consistently reproduce WiFi not working right from a fresh Raspbian Jessie image, but working fine from a fresh NOOBS install on my PI 3.

When starting by burning the latest Raspbian image directly to the SD card and booting, configuring WiFi from the desktop *appears* to work and the icon shows a connection, but no services on the machine trying to use the network (even a loopback to 127.0.0.1) will connect to a name or a specific IP. The network involved is running WPA2 Personal and AES although I don't believe encryption is the issue since the adapter is connecting.

Installing Raspbian Jessie under NOOBS instead, the WiFi configuration steps are identical, but there is IP connectivity like SSH and the browser.

I can't get mine to work either. I see the icon and it asks me my password, but never connects. No activity on the icons or anything..

I also had a problem of not finding my network on the RP3. SoI changed my radio channel on my modem from 13 to 9 (lower than 10). After that the RP3 was able to pick the signal up. I read this on another forum.

@alt thanks. Had this since early March. I browsed around then for the solution, too soon. My router was on 12 swapped to channel 7. Luckily that band wasn't congested.

and download the brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin and brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt files into the directory
/lib/firmware/brcm/ then try again
Followed this and I was able to stream spotify over my phones 4G. THANK YOU!

I tried all sollutions in this thread. (including a fresh raspian install on new sd card).
However my wifi was working earlier and it suddenly just died ,can i conclude that i have an hardware faillure on my Pi ?

I have a similar issue, no wlan0 interface on a RPi3. If I move the same SD card to other RPi3s the wlan0 interface appears just fine. I'm assuming that the board where wlan0 doesn't show up, is faulty, but I've included my results from other queries in this thread just in case. I'm hoping if anyone has any other thoughts they might share them. The one thing to note is that the dmesg between the working and non working board are slightly different even though I'm using the same SD card.

I have done the following

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
rpi-update

I have also done the following

raspi-config and gone to the A5 options, that for me is SPI rather than "Device Tree", but I've searched and don't see a Device Tree.

After getting latest updates and firmware revisions Wlan0 still does not show up. However I noticed now after running commands below:

# Remove the Driver
modprobe -r brcmfmac
# Load in the Driver
modprobe brcmfmac

Wlan0 would show up after ifconfig -a.

What do I need to do to make it permanent. What could be the issue that driver is not loaded at boot time? Tried several reboots and shutdown -h already.

Hi guys,

Did anyone come up with a solution? I have exactly the same problem. The wlan0 interface is not showing.
I've tried to install the latest version of Raspbian directly and with Noobs without any results.
I've tried enabling from raspi-config -> Advanced -> A5 -> Yes and Reboot. Still nothing.

From the GUI it displayes: No wireless interfaces. Also the bluetooth is not working.
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and I suppose that this things should work out of the box, I Didn't do anything extra (like modifying any config files).

What am I doing wrong?

I have a rpi3. The Wifi works fine when its near router takes twice as long to download when its downstairs. My question is if I add a USB wifi do I need to turn off the onboard WIFI?

I'm having a similar issue. ifconfig shows the wlan entry and selecting the network shows me nearby wireless networks, but when I pick mine & provide the wep key, I can't even ping the router. Is WEP deprecated on the Pi?

please guys, i need help...i cannot figure it out what the problem is on the wifi...have been reading and trying but nothing..i have to use a usb ralink antenna to connect wireless, it really sucks.

Hi all,

i have the same issue. The Wifi Interface don't work. Only the eth0 and lo is showing up with the ifconfig -a command.

i update the pi3 with:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo rpi-update

i activated in the sudo raspi-config the Point 9 -> A5.
But the A5 isn't called Device Tree, it's called SPI Kernel Modul. I can't find the Device Tree Item in the Menu.

if i run dmesg, i get an error:
mmc1: error -110 whilst initialising SDIO card

I have no idea, what i can try next. I hope it is not a Hardware problem.
