Just tried my RP 2 for the first time

Wed Jan 27, 2016 2:37 pm

Hey Guys, I got a new Raspberry Pi 2 for Christmas and when I tried booting it last night it didn't go so well. I plugged in my monitor booted it up and the monitor said there was no video to display.

About my PI:

running Kali Linux on 8Gb SD card: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2692
When booted the ACT and power LED are both Solid.
Powered with generic micro sd cable plugged into my desktop PC. (this was sufficient power for my last PI. RP 1 B).

My next step is going to be:
Install new OS on SD card and see if it boots.

If the card was from the old Pi, it may not have the required bootcode, which was updated for the Pi2. Or the Kali linux is too old.

Try a new version of Raspbian on a new card.

Ditch Kali, start with Raspbian or NOOBS/Raspbian you are more likely to get that working.

Thanks, I am going to install a new OS later tonight. I wanted Kali Linux because I am trying to make a Pen Testing device.

Well now it looks like I will have to create the tools myself in Raspbian :D

Hopefully all goes well.

You can always install Kali at some point (maybe use a second SD card).
But to start off it's best to use Raspbian. If you have any problems you're more likely to find good support.
