Cannot connect via Gnome Network Manager

Sun Jul 29, 2012 9:47 pm

I am trying to get my pi to connect to the internet via a wifi dongle. I first tried to just modify /etc/network/interfaces and whatnot, but that didn't work. So I installed wicd, which did not detect any networks. Last, I installed gnome network manager. The good news is that gnome network manager could detect wireless networks through my dongle. The bad news is that it could not connect to the wireless network. AN error message came up saying that the program was not authorized to add/activate a network. I double checked to make sure my user was authorized under netdev. It is. I am at aloss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am trying like you to get connected through a dongle, and I am in exactly the same situation.
Has anyone been able to use network-manager-gnome properly ?

Type 'SUDO' before 'startx' in other words 'sudo startx' and I was able to set up connections
