Can't power the Raspberry Pi thought an USB micro adapter...

Thu Dec 10, 2015 9:37 pm

I have an issue with powering the Raspberry PI thought an USB micro adapter.

Here is my working setup as is right now, but as you properly can see is the USB cable going from the hard drive and into the Apple 12V charger is very short.

Therefore I brought an USB micro adapter instead, but when I power it on thought the adapter, the hard drive and the wifi dongle won't turn on - the pi is turning normally on. I have tried using diffrent cables.

If you look at your first picture, the bottom left of the Pi has a micro USB socket labelled "POWER" - that is where you should be connecting the power cable (it looks empty) - see here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... /README.md, and here for a picture: http://elinux.org/RPi_Hardware_Basic_Se ... g_Together

you have an old style model B
it can be back powered but it's not the best way

get a 4 port POWERED usb hub - with a 2A PSU
power the RPI from that using a micro usb lead
connect the hub to the raspberry PI vi the uplink cable
connect the Hard disk to the HUB [you probably do not need the Y connector]

WARNING - some parts of this post may be erroneous YMMV

Hey, I have looked on some USB hubs, and I saw this one?

Could I use that?
