Pi Zero - keyboard/mouse not working

Sun Dec 06, 2015 10:36 pm

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero - put NOOBS on a SD card, plugged in a micro-usb->usb converter, plugged keyboard in....NOOBS boots, but keyboard doesn't work. I also tried connected a USB hub - it has a blue light on it, so I know its getting power, but same experience, mouse + keyboard do not respond. I have tried multiple keyboards + mice. I'm not sure where to go next. I see the FAQ about firmware, but that appears to be for the b.

The firmware isn't different across models. That is software-wise, not hardware. That FAQ should apply to this as well.

Er ... WRONG!

The firmware is identical, it just has special handling for the BCM2835 (A/B/B+/A+/0) vs BCM2836 (2B) processor.

The problem that usually causes a keyboard/mouse failure is having firmware that's too old for the machine you're trying to run it on, the B+, 2B and zero all needed a firmware upgrade (which was made available on (or shortly before) release day).

I am completely new to using a raspberry pi. I downloaded NOOBS v1.4 which was released Nov. 12, 2015 . I had the same issue but as I started to remove the SD card I realized that I had plugged the keyboard into the port labeled power and power into the port labeled USB. Once I swapped them and powered the device back on the keyboard did work. I hope this helps someone.

Of interest, when I tried a logitech nano dongle with a typical USB OTG adapter I got no joy, but with a micro adapter like this one (https://www.amazon.co.uk/meZmory-Adapte ... sb+adapter) it worked ok. I have no idea why.

I have found that using an otg cable like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CX ... UTF8&psc=1 and a micro usb adapter like https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-A-2-0-fema ... 3545638029. connect power and mouse to one and keyboard to another works reliably. I have also found if you need more then 2 usb devices, using a small unpowered usb hub plugged into the powered otg cable works well.
