SMB not working when network name changed

Fri Aug 07, 2015 12:17 am

I've installed SMB several times with no issue, but when I changed the network name from raspberrypi to pitime I could no longer write files on the Pi (still could browse and read files). If I change the network name back to raspberrypi, SMB works fine. What have I overlooked?

Hi,

just a quick guess: In smb.conf there might be a line

Code: Select all

servername = raspberrypi
Change this along with your hostname and restart all Samba daemons.

Unfortunately there is no servername in my smb.conf.

Here is what I added to smb.conf:

Code: Select all

[PiShare]
   comment= Pi Share
   path=/
   browseable=Yes
   writeable=Yes
   only guest=no
   create mask=0777
   directory mask=0777
   public=no

Where's the [global] section of your config?

Code: Select all

[global]
        workgroup = WORKGROUP
        netbios aliases = pi
        server string = pi
        log level = 1
        syslog = 0
        time server = Yes
        socket options = SO_KEEPALIVE IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY
        printcap name = CUPS
        os level = 65
        domain master = no
        wins support = Yes
        veto files = /*.eml/*.nws/riched20.dll/*.{*}/
        kernel oplocks = no
        encrypt passwords = true
        passdb backend = tdbsam
        obey pam restrictions = yes
