I Think My Pi is Really Dead :((

Fri Jun 19, 2015 12:01 am

After being on vacation for a few days, when I came home I plugged in my Pi and everything seemed normal, a few minutes went by and for the first time in probably months I got the little pixel rainbow square in the corner. Shortly after that, the same time my window air conditioner (both plugged into the same outlet) kicked on, the Pi shut off never to return again. I turned my monitor around to look at the Pi and the act light was still flashing as normal, then I unplugged it, plugged it back in and nothing on the screen, the Act light turns out a few moments before the power led and they both stay solid.

Because sometimes when my AC turns on or speeds up my monitor kind of flashes I figured it could've been a little power fluctuation or something that blew the fuse so I let it sit for now going on two days. The voltage on both sides of the fuse reads 4.98v as well as (positive) PP1 and (negative) PP5 so I'm not really sure if its the fuse anymore.
Of course I bought my Pi on eBay so I assume that means there is essentially no manufacturers warranty so it looks like I'm on my own.

Anybody have any ideas to try before dissecting it and waiting for CHIP to get released before messing with another SBC?

Do you have another SD card to try?
Do you have a backup copy?
Your card is probably corrupted.

Yeah, I've got quite a few cards with different operating systems, all have the same outcome. I have also tried mostly every power supply I have including a 2A portable charger to no avail.

Any idea if the Pi comes with a manufactures warranty? I bought mine from amazon so I assume I don't get the typical protection as I would've had I bought it from element 14... Lesson learned on that one

Too many assumptions. Contact your supplier. You have rights. See what they say ;)

Turns out I actually got it from a third party seller on amazon. After quite a few emails of them trying to pawn the return off on anyone and me trying to convince them they are the only one that can return an item they purchased to element 14 they finally agreed to a refund. I'm kinda scared to send it back because based on their emails they don't seem to understand how amazon or selling things in general works, but well see.

Anyways, thanks for the help! I suppose for now my time with the Pi is done
