faulty sdcard slot?

Wed May 13, 2015 12:12 pm

Hey everyone,

Please be considerate that english is not my primary language so if my sentences are jibberish, please say so.

A friend of mine gave me an Raspberry PI Model B+ 512MB including an AC 5V 2A power adapter he got at work.
I installed noobs, but when there was an power failure, which is uncommon here, the raspberry pi wont boot anymore. The red and green led just stays on, on full power, and there is no screen output throughout HDMI.

Whatever, lets format it with the SD Association tool, reinstall NOOBS, but no luck, did the same for XBIAN OSMC and RASPBIAN. No luck either, so tried the power adapter of my Oneplus One (also 5v 2A), nope. Different Micro SD? Nope either.

Really bummed out, because i just ordered a 7 inch touchscreen to make an CAR-PC. Is the RPI totally dead? Or can i try something else?

Hope Someone could help

No! Not a " faulty sdcard slot", just a bad or badly imaged sd-card, please read the boot problem sticky post.

I would recommend downloading the latest Raspbian image and forget about noobs. Reimage the SD card and retry; I am sure you'll be successful, and best of luck.

I have a couple of further recommendations based on my own experience YMMV (as well, everyone elses) ;)

Blow out the SD card slot... DO NOT USE YOUR MOUTH. Use an air can (electronics supply houses) or use an air pressure hose, etc. Sometimes a bit of lint will get into the slot and keep the contacts on the micro SD card from making. Also, the same thing can happen with the adapter... blow it out before re-imaging the card. Inspect the card itself and make certain the contacts are clean and free of lint or flecks of paper, etc.

As a last resort, purchase a new 8gig card and start from scratch with the Raspbian image; again, forget about noobs (the reason is you'll get more free disk space and the boot-up sequence is cleaner and faster).

thanks for all the replies.

After like 10 tries, noobs would boot up, with no changes in methods of preparing the sd card. however, i bought the rpi for the intention to build a car pc, wich preferrably should run on xbian. But the xbian installer completes fine, the rpi would not recognize it. currently installed openelec trough noobs

thanks
