I tried hooking up my Raspberry Pi 2 to a spare monitor I have but it only has a DVI-D connection and after buying a HDMI to DVI-D adaptor all I get is no signal, Dose the raspberry Pi work in digital or just analog because I know DVI-D is digital only.

Thanks

It should work. I have been using my Pi2 connected to the DVI IN socket on my Samsung monitor. I was using an HDMI->HDMI cable, with an HDMI->DVI adapter plug on the end.

There has been a post by ame while I was writing this ... I will post anyway.

Yes, HDMI is a digital and many people are successfully using HDMI to DVI-D adapters.

Are you sure the Raspberry Pi is booting? If not read the boot problem sticky thread.
If you are sure it is booting, then you may need to make changes to the Raspberry Pi configuration (config.txt). There is documentation here. However, if you are using NOOBS it may not be that easy to edit without a working monitor.

I had issues with some HDMI to DVi Adaptors, so bought a cable like this:

I have one of these:

I assume it is just a passive re-wiring of the signals.

Yes the raspberry is working fine when I used the HDMI input my main 27inch monitor I use for my PC but will not work when using the hdmi to dvi adaptor on the 27inch and my backup 21inch monitor I have, unfortunately the 21inch it only has a DVI input.

I wanted to have the raspberry setup like a partible PC on the 21inch and be able to move it around wherever I want without having to plug and unplug things on my main monitor but It could be the adaptor I got off ebay very cheap so I will try and find a proper hdmi to dvi cable instead of an adaptor.

Which is exactly like the HDMI/DVI-D cable I'm using with my Philips monitor.

Got a proper HDMI to DVI cable instead of an adaptor and it works great now without any problems
