After my gui screen comes up after entering 'startx' on terminal I get this in an error box on my screen...

GDBus.Error.org.freedesktop.policykit1.Error.Failed: cannot determine user of subject.

is this a serious issue and how do I fix it...again this is on my RPi2

Everybody gets this message.

Nobody ever explains why it happens or how to eliminate it.

They just say to ignore it.

So, just ignore it...

FWIW, I don't get that message.

It's only on Pi2 with the December 2014 desktop changes.

There is a forum post that explains how to disable the message, but I'm not bored enough to search for it.

Oh, I use standard LXDE. I don't see any advantage to the tweaks that were made. IMO, some things (the power menu for example -- shutdown, reboot, etc.) behave worse with the UI mods.

Here's the answer:

Code: Select all

open a Terminal, Type
$ lxsession-edit
to open Desktop Session Settings dialog box and uncheck LXPolKit. Click OK. then reboot.

On my first Raspbian install I didn't have this error.
On second and third I did. But not on first boot of second install.

So I'd guess there's a high chance but it's not necessarily every single boot.
