Openelec WiFi Failure Problems?

Thu Apr 09, 2015 12:10 pm

For some reason OpenELEC will work with my WiFi perfectly fine for days so long as I don't turn it off, then once I turn it off or restart I have to reboot like 20 times for it to finally connect to my WiFi again and not say "failure". Its annoying, reeeeaaalllyy annoying. Is there a fix for this? I got a notification for a new version for the Pi 2 but can't find it, if there is a new version is anyone having this issue with that one as well?

To be clear my WiFi does work, my dongle is supported and my list of networks comes up every time, it just never wants to connect to them sometimes. Other times it works from the boot. It just took about 15 minutes, 4 restarts and several deletes of my ssid and reconnecting and entering my key for it to finally take -_-

Are you using dhcp to assign an IP address from your router automatically? It maybe failing to negotiate an IP address from the router correctly. What shows up in dmesg on the pi when you hot plug the WiFi dongle?

Check the logs on the router and consider configuring the router to set a fixed IP address for the device. This can be done via the router's web interface - post back or ask google if you don't know how to do that.

I've been trying with both. In fact I've tried with just about every combination of settings available via my routers config. Previously I was using it on a static IP when it worked. For some reason after I left my Pi sit on for a few days, when I shook the mouse to wake it up it powered off and since both Ubuntu and OpenELEC have been really wonky. I hope my pi didn't halfway die. Even now after getting it to connect after making this thread, it was working fine, was watching a movie, then 35 minutes it the screen flashed green and it stopped. Then Navi x wouldn't open, shortly after 1channel wouldn't work. Then I couldn't ssh. So I rewrote the SD and tried again. Now when I can get the WiFi to connect (the time updates) but everything else requiring internet says "remote share" "could not connect to network server" or some other message about not being connected when clearly I am. I'm about to just go back to watching videos on my tablet and avoid the headache.

Oh and its freezing. 3 times in an hour of trying to add a freaking add-on. Jeez. Time to sell the pi.
