pi hangs with hdmi_safe=1

Sat Mar 07, 2015 9:58 am

hi. got a new B+ pi.
it doesnt display a picture using HDMI connection.
trying to troubleshoot this issue, i've added hdmi_safe=1 to config.txt and now it doesnt boot at all.
with trial and error i've determined that the parameter that makes it hang is hdmi_force_hotplug=1.
before you guys send me to the "my pi doesnt boot" FAQ i have to tell that i went through it without success.
also, another pi (B, not B+) works with same setup (same sd,same hdmi cable, same power supply).
any ideas?

how did you recognize it that it hangs?
was it not accessible by ssh?
Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+ (since 2014-08-10): Raspbian jessie / Debian 8.1
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B (since 2015-03-10): OpenELEC 5.0.8
