No picture on HDMI

Wed Jul 04, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi,

I'm having HDMI issues with my Pi and my Sony KDL-40W5710 TV.

When then Pi boots, the TV detects the signal and switches to the appropriate HDMI channel. The OSD even says BCM2763 so it's receiving some data from the Pi, just no picture!

I've uploaded the latest firmware using hexxeh's tool and i'm running Wheezy.

I've tried just about every config.txt change (including no config.txt) that I've found on other forum posts, including all the usual hdmi_safe=1 and setting other various mode settings (hdmi_force_hotplug=1, hdmi_drive, hdmi_mode, hdmi_group etc) but still no output at all. I've tried two different HDMI cables (which work with my sky box -> tv).

Going in via PuTTY i've got hold of the following EDID info (below)

I've run out of ideas and Linux knowledge. Any help would be appreciated!

Neil.

Did you also try:

config_hdmi_boost configure the signal strength of the HDMI interface. Default is 0. Try 4 if you have interference issues with hdmi. 7 is the maximum.

Just tried config_hdmi_boost=7 (had previously tried 4) but still no picture (it's completely blank).

That EDID looks straightforward. This feels like a hardware fault.

One last check. Remove everything from config.txt (including hdmi_safe=1) and add config_hdmi_boost=7.
(I don't expect that to work).

If you can swap you Pi with a friend's, then that's the best test.
If you can plug the Pi into someone else's HDMI TV (and their cable), that is other useful test.

Have a close look at the HDMI socket on the Pi. Check no pins are bent inside, and there is nothing suspicious on the soldering.

This might need an RMA.

Thanks dom. As suspected it didn't make any difference.

I'll find an unsuspecting volunteer over the weekend and try it out on another TV and cable combination ;-)

Well I tried the Pi on a friend's TV (also using my cable) and it all worked fine!

So the hardware is obviously ok, but I'm now stuck (again).

I'm also having trouble with my hdmi output to a Sony KDL32... tv. There's some more detail in the Using the Raspberry pi and top thread 'basic set up and usage'. Looks a bit tricky though
