Using Pi3 microSD on Pi3+

Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:43 am

Hey folks,
I wanted to use my SD card, which is running since 2 years now on a pi3 on my pi3+
so i updated and upgraded via apt-get. haltet my pi, removed the sd, put it in pi3+ and when i try to power it on the red onboard LED starts flashing.

what did i do wrong?

i early set up a clean new raspbian on my pi3+ and it worked perfectly fine, but i want to keep all my data in a 1:1 copy from the pi3.

thanks

greetings

What Operating System (named version or download date) do you have on the card that works in your old RPi?

Did you install to your original Pi 3 using NOOBS ?

Did you search the forum for other answers to your question ?

Jessie is very old and has been replaced by Stretch. You need to download the 2018-03-19 version and move it onto a new 8GB or larger micro SC card.

You could try to update the distribution but it is more complicated than just running the dist-upgrade since you will need to also update the packages repositories.

Jessie is end of life and pre-dates the 3B+ by 6+ months.

If you did not use NoobS to install Jessie youu will need to put SD Card back in 3B and:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo rpi-update
sudo reboot

If you use NoobS good luck !!
